The two most popular options when it comes to exhibition stands are modular and shell. Modular are lightweight but still tough and durable. They are easy to put together based on your own individual specifications. Shell can be moulded into any shape. You can then add in graphics, lights etc. for additional impact. Your basic aim is to create something attractive and appealing that will draw visitors in. You can be quite traditional in your design or go for the contemporary look for added appeal.
If you have the budget and the lead time, you can get your own completely bespoke stand designed and built. This is the way to go for something truly innovative and unique. This isn't for everyone though as the costs may be prohibitive to smaller companies. If you do go down this route don't lose sight of your basic objectives. It's easy to get carried away! Yes you want to stand out, but equally you want something inviting and appealing that clearly displays what you do and what makes you different.
