Postcards are perhaps the quintessential marketing piece to just about all businesses. They not only allow you to sell your business, but also allow you to clearly state a problem, add any applicable details and then expand on your business's services. However, in order to get the most effective marketing for your business you must first get the proper details in order. Below are the top five design mistakes.
Die Cut - Try and use a postcard that is unique in shape. This is perhaps the easiest, most convenient way of sticking out in a very densely populated market. So try to think of shapes that will embody your industry. For example, many times dentists will create shapes such as toothbrushes and teeth. Or chiropractors will create shapes in the form of spines. This will help in getting instant eyeballs to your marketing collateral.
Effective Fonts - Make sure that the font you use is a serif font. Using a serif font allows the eye to quickly skin your content. By doing this, the recipient can easily take in as much information as possible and also allows them to process it on a quickly and timely basis.
Image Placement - Well-placed imagery is the best technique at getting attention to certain components of your card. It can lead the recipient through a specific thought process, and can also motivate certain calls to action.
Brand Misalignment - Make sure that the copy, design and layout are all inline with your branding. Properly aligning your brand with all of your marketing collateral shows that you are not only a careful business owner, but it also helps build brand credibility by showing that all of your marketing collateral is cohesive. Showing cohesiveness is something that all big corporations do, and adds a lot to your overall business plan.
When you are done, be sure that you pass your postcard around to everyone you know. This will help in getting feedback on your design as well as feedback on your future marketing collateral.
